Dr. Mark Thompson, DVM, MBA, CCRP

Owner & Medical Director

Dr. Mark Thompson grew up on a small dairy farm in rural Wisconsin, where hard work, humility, and compassion for animals were part of everyday life. Those early lessons in responsibility and teamwork inspired his lifelong dedication to veterinary medicine and the belief that every pet deserves the highest level of care.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Thompson combines clinical expertise with a strong background in business and leadership. He holds an MBA and is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP), allowing him to integrate innovative medicine with thoughtful, efficient practice management.

Dr. Thompson founded Country Hills Pet Hospital in Eden, Wisconsin, with a vision of creating a practice where pets receive comprehensive, compassionate care and where every team member plays a vital role. Under his leadership, the hospital has grown into a full-service, AAHA-accredited facility offering advanced diagnostics such as 3-D CT imaging, ultrasound, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and physical rehabilitation. In 2018, the hospital was honored as the AAHA Accredited Practice of the Year, recognizing its excellence in medical care, teamwork, and client service.

In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Thompson is the author of a forthcoming book on veterinary efficiency, blending practical systems for workflow optimization with lessons drawn from his personal journey, from rural farm life to national veterinary leadership. His work emphasizes the belief that efficiency and empathy can coexist to improve both patient care and staff well-being.

Dr. Thompson’s influence extends beyond his practice. He served as President of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) from 2023 to 2024. At the state and local levels, he has held leadership positions in the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA) and the Northeast Wisconsin VMA, championing technician utilization, mentorship, and community engagement.

A strong advocate for veterinary technician education, Dr. Thompson also served on the Advisory Boards for the Moraine Park Technical College and Madison College Veterinary Technician Programs, helping shape curriculum and provide real-world perspective for the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Dr. Thompson’s family shares his passion for service. His daughter, Courtney, a licensed social worker, leads the hospital’s pet loss and grief support program, while his son, Sawyer, is pursuing a degree in political science while working as a Veterinary Assistant at the practice.

When he’s not in the clinic, Dr. Thompson enjoys writing, teaching, and speaking about leadership, teamwork, and innovation in veterinary practice. His philosophy is simple: “People helping people helping pets.”
