Orthopedic Surgery

What is Orthopedic Surgery?

Orthopedic surgery for dogs addresses various conditions affecting their bones and joints, including ACL injuries, fractures, and joint diseases. One of the most common procedures is the Modified Maquet Procedure (MMP) for dogs, which helps stabilize the knee after a dog ACL tear or cruciate ligament tear in dogs. Symptoms of a dog torn ACL include limping, difficulty standing, and decreased activity. While some pet owners explore dog ACL braces or home treatments for a torn ACL in dogs, surgery—such as MMP or TTA surgery for dogs—is often the best solution for long-term recovery. If you're concerned about dog ACL surgery costs, we offer guidance on low-cost dog ACL surgery near you. Our expert team specializes in orthopedic conditions in dogs, providing advanced care to restore mobility and improve your pet’s quality of life.

What Types of Orthopedic Surgery do you provide?

We perform Modified Maquet Procedure (MMP) for Cruciate Repairs and RidgeStop patellar stabilization for patella luxation.

What is Modified Maquet Procedure (MMP)?

During surgery,  an osteomy (cut in the bone) is made at the top of the tibia (the skin bone) just behind the tibial tuberosity (the “point” of the knee) and the cut bone is hinged forwards.  A wedge-shaped implant made from titanium foam is placed behind the tibial tuberosity to hold it in the “hinged-forwards” position.

What is RidgeStop patellar stabilization?

The aim of the surgery is to make sure that the patellar slides up and down within its groove, without slipping to one side or the other, the cause of discomfort and lameness. This surgery works by applying a special implant (a prosthetic ridge called RidgeStop) using screws onto the side of the groove where the kneecap was dislocating, thereby creating a barrier which prevents this from occurring.

Is there an initial consult?

An initial consult is needed with Dr. Thompson. After the consult, surgery and physical therapy will be set up.
